Which alternative fuels are most relevant for a transport fleet?

The choice of the 'best' alternative fuel depends on the vehicle type and usage.

The most relevant options today are: 1.

**Electricity:** The preferred solution for light commercial vehicles and company cars, thanks to its excellent carbon footprint (zero tailpipe emissions) and low running cost.

2.

**Biofuels (HVO, B100):** The best current option to quickly decarbonize existing heavy-duty truck fleets.

They are compatible with modern diesel engines and can reduce GHG emissions by up to 90%.

3.

**Natural Gas for Vehicles (NGV/BioNGV):** A mature solution for trucks and buses, especially in its renewable form (BioNGV), which offers a very favorable carbon footprint.

4.

**Hydrogen:** A very promising technology for long-haul heavy transport, as it combines long range with short refueling times.

The vehicle offerings and station network are still under development.
