Fleet management for field technicians

Managing a fleet of field technicians means steering vehicles fitted out as mobile workshops, loaded with parts, assigned to daily intervention rounds. The vehicle is a means of production: every hour off the road is a job postponed at a customer's site.

Three facts that matter to a maintenance manager

  • Up to -40 % of the time spent servicing the vehicles of the fleet.
  • Around 40 telematics signals over OBD/CAN, with a configurable threshold and routing for each signal.
  • A GPS/OBD device or a factory-connected vehicle: the tracking works either way.

What goes wrong in a maintenance company

  • “My technician is at the customer's, but I do not know since when.” With no idle-time-in-zone signal, round tracking rests on phone calls.
  • “The customer disputes the time of the visit and I have nothing to show.” The trip history stays in the device, not in the job file.
  • “The van is fitted out, loaded with parts, and it goes home in the evening.” Home garaging blurs the line between business use and private life.

What you get with Dadycar

Idle time in zone

Geofencing zones combine with time slots per site and per vehicle group. The idle-time-in-zone signal reports abnormally long stops.

Trips and odometer readings

The trip history and the odometer readings, telematics or manual, document the round and feed the vehicle's real mileage.

Jobs and work orders

Internal services, partner services and Dadycar Services jobs are booked and tracked, quotes and orders included, with a calendar of fleet events.

Inspections of the mobile workshop

Inspection forms are composed item by item: fit-out, load securing, tooling, vehicle condition. Every submission is kept in the history.

Telematics alerts with thresholds

Engine warning light, fault codes, 12 V battery, tyre pressure and temperature for each wheel, shock or impact: every signal has its severity, its threshold and its notification channel.

Assignment, scheduling and expenses

The day, week or month schedule assigns a vehicle to a technician or places it in the pool. Costs per vehicle feed the real cost of the round.

How it works

  1. 1Import the intervention fleet. Fitted-out vans, contracts, sites and technicians; the due dates then calculate themselves.
  2. 2Set the round rules. Zones and time slots in geofencing, alert thresholds, an inspection form for the fitted-out vehicle.
  3. 3Follow the day. Real-time map, trips, planned jobs, submissions from the Dadycar Go mobile app.

Who it is for

  • Construction: the same fitted-out vans, the same movements from site to site (see the industry page).
  • Healthcare and emergency services: equipped vehicles whose unavailability is paid for immediately (see the industry page).
  • Maintenance and operations managers: the page dedicated to that role (read it).

Your typical round, during the demo

Bring one real day of jobs: we set the zones, the alert thresholds and the inspection form live.

Your questions before getting started

  • “My technicians keep the vehicle at home, is it legal to locate them?” Collection must stop outside working time, home-to-work journeys included, and the employee must be able to switch it off.
  • “Does every van need a device?” A GPS/OBD device or a factory-connected vehicle: the fleet, contract, cost and inspection modules work even without telematics.
  • “How long does it take to start?” As soon as the fleet is imported, due dates and inspections are operational; the zones are drawn once positions start coming in.

Frequently asked questions

Can you locate the vehicle of a technician who keeps it at home?

Yes during working time, no outside it. The CNIL forbids collecting location data outside working time, including during home-to-work journeys and breaks, and provides that the employee must be able to switch the system off (CNIL).

Which purposes justify locating intervention vehicles?

The safety of people, goods and vehicles, billing a service, monitoring and allocating resources across scattered sites, compliance with the rules on using the vehicle. Permanent monitoring and speeding checks are excluded (CNIL).

How long should the location data of a round be kept?

Two months as a rule. One year when the data is used to optimise rounds or to prove a job at a customer's site. Five years when it is used to track working time, if no other system allows it (CNIL).

How do you prove the time a technician visited a customer?

By combining the geofencing zone of the customer's site, the time stamp of the idle time in zone and the vehicle's trip history. The CNIL expressly allows location data to be kept for one year as proof of a job.

How do you track the stock of parts carried in a van?

Dadycar tracks the vehicle, its inspections and its expenses, not the stock references. A dedicated inspection form makes it possible to check the fit-out, the load securing and the tooling periodically, with a dated submission that is kept.

Must technicians be informed before a tracking system is installed?

Yes. Staff representatives are informed and consulted before it is put in place, and every employee is informed individually: data controller, purposes, legal basis, recipients, retention period, rights of access and objection (CNIL).
