Your questions before getting started

“What if my drivers refuse to be located?”

Time slots exist precisely for that: outside working time, collection has no reason to be active, and the employee must be able to switch it off.

“Do I need a device?”

A GPS-OBD device or a connected OEM vehicle: both report the position, the second with no equipment to fit.

“How long does it take to start?”

As soon as vehicles report their position and the sites are created, the first zones can be drawn.

Frequently asked questions

What is geofencing for a vehicle fleet?

Geofencing means outlining virtual geographic zones and raising a signal when a vehicle enters one, leaves it or parks inside it. In Dadycar, every zone is combined with time slots per day, per site and per vehicle group.

Is locating employees' vehicles allowed in France?

Yes, for specific purposes: safety of people and goods, billing a service, monitoring and allocating resources, compliance with the rules on using the vehicle. It cannot be used for permanent monitoring or to check speeding (CNIL).

Must location tracking be switched off outside working hours?

The employee must be able to switch off the collection or the transmission of their location outside working time, in particular during breaks and home-to-work journeys. The employer may ask for an explanation when it is switched off very frequently (CNIL).

How should employees be informed before a tracking device is fitted?

Employees are informed individually and beforehand: data controller, purposes, legal basis, recipients, retention period, rights of access, rectification and objection, and the option to refer the matter to the CNIL. Staff representatives are informed and consulted before it is put in place (CNIL).

How long can a vehicle's location data be kept?

Two months as a rule. One year when the data is used to optimize rounds or to prove that a job was done, and five years when it is used to track working time, if no other system allows it (CNIL).

Can a business trip be told apart from a private one?

That is what the time slots and public holidays set per site and per vehicle group are for: the rules only apply during declared working time. The framework must be described in the vehicle usage policy given to employees.
