How to preserve the lifespan of an electric vehicle's battery?
The battery is the most expensive component of an EV.
Preserving its State of Health (SoH) is crucial to maintaining the vehicle's value and performance.
Here are the best practices: 1.
**Avoid Charge Extremes:** Ideally, maintain the State of Charge (SoC) between 20% and 80%.
Avoid leaving the battery at 100% or below 10% for extended periods.
2.
**Limit Fast Charging (DC):** Fast charging is useful but generates more heat and puts more stress on the battery cells.
It should be reserved for occasional needs, with slow (AC) charging preferred for daily use.
3.
**Manage Temperature:** Avoid parking the vehicle in direct sun or extreme cold for long periods.
Battery Thermal Management Systems (BTMS) help, but caution is advised.
4.
**Adopt Smooth Driving:** Very strong accelerations place intense demand on the battery.
Smoother driving contributes to its longevity.
