What the device measures
Promoting eco-driving without measurement tools is difficult. Telematics makes this concept concrete and measurable. A telematics device continuously analyzes driver actions that directly impact consumption:
- Acceleration and Braking: Detects harsh behaviors that waste fuel.
- Speed: Monitors adherence to speed limits and excessive speeds, which exponentially increase consumption.
- Engine RPM: Analyzes if the driver stays within the most efficient engine speed range.
- Idle Time: Identifies periods when the engine is running unnecessarily.
From score to programme
This data is then aggregated to create an 'eco-driving score' for each driver. This objective score allows for targeted training programs and 'gamification,' such as monthly challenges rewarding the most 'eco' drivers. The benefits are numerous: up to 15% fuel savings, reduced pollutant emissions, lower maintenance costs (less wear on brakes and tires), and increased safety, as smooth driving is safer driving.
