Connected Vehicle

A connected vehicle is much more than a car with internet access; it's a data and services hub on wheels. At the heart of this technology is a communication module (eSIM/modem) integrated by the manufacturer, ensuring a permanent and secure connection. This communication capability paves the way for a multitude of features that redefine the driving and ownership experience.

The families of functions

Features can be classified into three main categories:

1. Safety and Assistance: Systems like the automatic emergency call (eCall) in case of an accident, or safety alerts transmitted via V2X communication (e.g., a stopped vehicle around a blind corner) rely on this connectivity.
2. Comfort and Infotainment: This includes navigation with real-time traffic information, music streaming, Wi-Fi hotspots for passengers, and mobile apps for remotely controlling vehicle functions (locking, pre-heating).
3. Maintenance and Performance: The vehicle can send diagnostic data to the manufacturer to anticipate failures (predictive maintenance). Crucially, it can receive Over-the-Air (OTA) software updates that improve performance, add new features, or fix bugs, thereby extending its technological relevance.
